Since last I wrote, I’ve been jamming out an anthology comic with friends Josh, Betsey, and Ben (the last two need to get their internet asses in gear, so I ain’t got shit to link to). It’s about how a cult rock musical from the ’70s has affected people throughout the decades. The movie’s about a hermaphrodite alien who comes to earth, falls in love with a farm boy, and changes his gender (because, obviously, her alien vagina isn’t compatible with a human penis, but her alien phallus fits just fine in a man’s vaj).

So here’s the cover, before it got type. I’ll show you the final after it’s got some gold screen printed onto it.

Things have been lovely lately. I had a visit from a whole bunch of family, plus love-of-my-life Caitlin this weekend, and we saw a bonfire, a frat house, and some fun things around WRJ, VT. It was refreshing to see the town through their eyes, and it made me feel less like I was born to run from it. Last night I even caught up on some emails I’d been neglecting. I’m feeling rejuvenated!

I realized I should let y’all know there have been a whole slew of updates at PB dot C recently. Not only is there the Abraham Lincoln comic, but there’s also one about a robot R&B star (which is also for applying to cartoon school), plus, like, three illustrations from The Big Money.

I’ve been thinking about doing one of those conception-to-finish blog posts that are so popular with illustrators these days. Would that be lame? Does anybody care what how some kid’s thought process/drawing process works? Is it really any different from anybody else’s? They only ever differ in the details. I guess I’m talking myself out of it. I dunno. I’m working on a wrap-around cover for the first issue of my comics anthology I’m calling Oak & Linden. And it’s pretty awesome. And it’s on much bigger paper than I’ve used since, like, sophomore year at Pratt. I was thinking maybe I’d post the process. Is that so lame???

Whoah! Brand new super-fun website! It’s a big group of artists/friends working in every medium there is. Every week one contributor assigns a theme and then everybody responds to it. I’ve kept meaning to do a Stephen Colbert-style celebratory post with confetti and balloons on this subject for quite a while now, and my previous entry reminded me to do it. Please, consider the following (from the VH1 website):

This was inevitable, of course. After the bell bottoms of the late Nineties gave way to the Eighties revival which was replaced by early Nineties grunge and hip hop cool, where else could we look for semi-ironic cultural inspiration but our own goddamn decade?? And so we have. Bless you, VH1. I can’t wait until cargo pants are back in style this fall.

Sorry blogfiends, there’s not gonna be a Portrait of the Week this week. I’m moving, and my hurried attempts at Tina Fey are so far no good.

In other drawing news, this is my contribution to a project by Eve Mosher called Insert____Here. The idea is, people see something that could improve the sustainability of their area, tag it with a sign that says what should be inserted, and then somebody visualizes it with a drawing over the image. Fun project! Good idea! Mine’s a bioswale, meaning a natural water filtration system, like a marsh.
